There are many causes of joint pain that benefit from chiropractic treatment. Doctors About Care, PC, have, since 1999, provided West Babylon chiropractic joint pain treatment with phenomenal results, allowing for ease of mobility to their West Babylon, NY patients.

In this section of our website we will discuss osteoarthritis, sacroiliac joint pain as well as facet joint syndrome. Basically, joint pains are a result of wear and tear, degenerative changes, trauma and repetitive motion which places stress upon spine. Tissues breakdown, muscles weaken, there is inflammation, stiffness and pain.

Osteoarthritis is a disease which deteriorates the cartilage of the joints. The body areas which are most likely to be affected by osteoarthritis are the hip, knees and joints of the hands. This disease usually affects people aged 55 and above. Osteoarthritis can be due to excessive and repetitive strain, as well as a result of trauma. Medical history review, orthopaedic testing, neurological testing as well as radiography will help the chiropractor determine the extent of your osteoarthritis.

Some symptoms of osteoarthritis are pain, stiffness, swelling, and a clicking sound due to the lack of lubrication as bone rubs bone (known as crepitus).
Chiropractic treatment for osteoarthritis would include:
Weight reduction, diet, exercise (to encourage cartilage formation and increase your muscle strength) and heat.

Sacroiliac joint pain is a lower back pain and sometimes leg pain that results from trauma, i.e. a slip and fall, childbirth, alterations in joint motion. It is hard to determine the exact degree of your sacroiliac pain as it mimics other conditions such as disc herniation and sciatic nerve pain. Examination would consist of moving the joint to see if it results in pain. Once an MRI scan has excluded the likelihood of disc herniation, the chiropractor can then decide on appropriate treatment for your sacroiliac joint dysfunction.

Chiropractic treatment for sacroiliac joint pain would include: manipulation of the shoulder and traction applied to the knee which results in an audible crack similar to cracking your knuckles. Other type of manipulation which are gentler include stretching, gravity traction, flexion distraction, muscle relaxation and strengthening of the hamstrings, thigh and hip muscles and the muscles next to the lumbar spine.

Facet joint syndrome is another common joint pain complaint. Facet joint syndrome is when the facet joints, which are located at the back of the spine, are injured overtime until it gets to the syndrome stage. Activities such as bending and other trivial activities can result in facet joint syndrome. The symptoms of facet joint syndrome is pain to one side of the spine. It is usually felt lower than the actual site of the injury. The pain can be felt in the buttock, groin or down the length of the thigh. Facet joints in the neck radiates pain over the neck, shoulder, arm - as this would occur in the mid-back it is felt also on the ribs. It can be rare when there is irritation of the nerve roots which would give neurological symptoms, i.e. numbness, pins and needles sensation. A chiropractor can make diagnosis based on your history. X-ray and MRI can help in terms of ruling out other causes.

Chiropractic treatment for facet joint pain would include: if the pain is acute,  early manipulation to release the muscle spasm, advice on how to get comfortable, exercises to help you get comfortable. In the acute stage pain would usually dissipate after 4-6 treatments. Then core muscle exercises can be done for better spinal stability and control and as a way to prevent injury from returning. In the chronic stage, treatment would include: exercise to create even more support and spinal stability. The longer you wait for chiropractic treatment for joint pain, the more chance of you becoming a chronic pain sufferer.

Back pain risks include: poor fitness and core muscle strength, poor posture, past episodes of back pain, pain that persists longer than 8 days.

Once you feel any joint pains, the recommendation is to contact West Babylon chiropractic joint pain treatment professionals Doctors About Care, PC to get examined, evaluated, diagnosed and to proceed with treatment to begin joint pain relief.
